What is Preservative Eco (Geogard ® ECT)?

Preservative Eco is also known as Geogard ® ECT and protects your homemade cosmetics against a broad spectrum of yeasts, molds and bacteria.

Benefits

Approved preservative
Preservative Eco is one of the few preservatives that is approved by Ecocert and Cosmos and is therefore used worldwide in natural cosmetics and care products. Preservative Eco is free from palm oil, phenoxyethanol, parabens, formaldehyde and isothiazolone.

Almost odorless
Preservative Eco is almost odorless and therefore perfect for fragrance-free formulas.

Add during the cool-down phase
It is recommended to add Preservative Eco during the cool-down phase of your formulation.

Effective across a wide pH range
Preservative Eco protects at a pH value of 3 to 8, giving you much freedom with the rest of your ingredients. Test the pH of your formula before adding the Preservative Eco. After you have added it, check the pH again. Check that it is between 3 and 8. For formulas used on the skin (except for peels) a pH between 5 and 6 is ideal. Preservative Eco will slightly lower the pH of your formula.

Protects against a wide range of invaders.

This preservative protects against a wide range of yeasts, molds and bacteria, so you don't need to add other preservatives to your product.

How do you use it?

Use Preservative Eco as a preservative in your homemade cosmetics. Use it for example in: creams, lotions, body butters (with water), sunscreens, lipsticks, makeup products, styling gels, shampoos and conditioners.

Dosage: The recommended dosage is 0.6% to 1% of the total weight of your finished product. Add Preservative Eco during the cool-down phase of your formula.

Preservative Eco consists of benzyl alcohol, salicylic acid, glycerin and sorbic acid. Benzyl alcohol can cause an allergic reaction, so always test your finished product (not the preservative itself) first on a small patch of skin and wait 24 to 48 hours to see if an allergic reaction occurs.

Note: Not suitable for children due to the salicylic acid content.
