  2. Bakuchiol Face Cream
Bakuchiol Face Cream

Bakuchiol Oil, extracted from the seed of the Babchi plant, is known as a natural and milder alternative to retinol. This rich, nourishing cream brings together the power of Bakuchiol with gentle Sweet Almond Oil, and is suitable for anyone who wants retinol-like results without the well-known irritation. Bakuchiol supports the skin's elasticity and helps to reduce the visibility of fine lines and pigmentation spots. A daily ritual that gives time, patience and attention back to your skin.

Instructions

1
Lay out all your tools and sanitise everything well. Set out all the weighed ingredients in separate beakers, so that you do not have to search during the making.
2
Put a pan of water on for your bain-marie, or get your hotplate out. You are going to heat both phases at the same time, so make sure your water bath is big enough for two beakers.
3
On a small dish, mix the Glycerine and Xanthan gum together into a smooth, transparent paste. This pre-dispersion prevents lumps in your cream. Set the paste aside for a moment.
4
Place your first measuring cup on the scale, press tare so that the weight is at zero, and weigh out the Demineralised Water. Note the total weight including the beaker, you will need that later to be able to check evaporation.
5
In a second measuring cup, weigh out Phase C, the Sweet Almond Oil and Natural Emulsifier (Vegetal / Montanov 68).
6
Heat both measuring cups at the same time in the bain-marie until they are both around 70 to 75 degrees. This is important for a stable emulsion, both phases must have the same temperature when you combine them. Stir gently through the oil mixture occasionally to check whether the Vegetal has fully dissolved, you will then see a clear, golden liquid.
7
Take both beakers out of the water bath and weigh the water phase again. If water has evaporated, top it up with extra demineralised water until you have reached the original weight again.
8
Now slowly pour the warm oil phase in a thin stream into the warm water phase, while you mix powerfully with a stick blender with homogeniser or an electric milk frother. Keep pulsing until you have a smooth, white, creamy emulsion. This is the magical moment when water and oil become one.
9
Now add your Glycerine and Xanthan gum paste from step 3 to the cream and stir gently but thoroughly. The cream now becomes visibly thicker and gets a beautiful, creamy texture.
10
Place the measuring cup in an ice bath, a bowl with water and ice cubes or cooling elements, and keep stirring gently. Let the cream cool to about 40 degrees.
11
Once the cream is 40 degrees, add Phase D: the Bakuchiol Oil, Vitamin E Oil, Preservative Eco and optionally the Less Stress essential oil. Stir everything carefully but well until the cream is even again.
12
Keep stirring gently over the ice bath for a little while until the cream has cooled to room temperature, around 20 degrees.
13
Measure the pH of your cream. To do this, make a dilution of 1 gram of cream with 9 grams of demineralised water and measure with a pH meter or pH strip. The ideal pH for your skin is between 5.0 and 5.5. If the pH is too high, add a solution of 9 parts water with 1 part citric acid drop by drop. If the pH is too low, use a solution of 9 parts water with 1 part baking soda. Measure again after each adjustment.
14
Pour your homemade cream into a clean jar or into a bottle with a pump, label your creation and store in a dark, cool place. Give it a day's rest before you use it for the first time.

Usage

After cleansing and toning, apply a small amount to your face and neck. Massage gently in circular motions until the cream is fully absorbed. For the best result, use the cream daily, both in the morning and in the evening. During the day, always combine it with a good SPF, that way you get the most out of how Bakuchiol works.
