Description

Scent family: Camphorous | Scent note: Top | Character: Fresh, sharp, refreshing

What is Eucalyptus Essential Oil (Globulus)?

Eucalyptus Globulus is one of the best-known and most used eucalyptus oils in the world. The oil is extracted from the leaves of Eucalyptus Globulus, a fast-growing tree originally from Tasmania and southeast Australia. The Latin name is Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil.

The clear, fresh and lightly sharp scent of eucalyptus is worldwide associated with revival, breathing freely and winter rituals. Add a few drops to a warm bath or diffuse in a diffuser and you'll feel like you're in a real hammam.

There are more than 900 species of eucalyptus, of which approximately 500 carry an essential oil. Our Globulus is the most common and recognizable of the bunch, with a high content of 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol), which is responsible for the powerful refreshing effect.

How is Eucalyptus Globulus made?

The leaves of Eucalyptus Globulus are harvested and processed into oil through steam distillation. In this process, the volatile aromatic compounds are released, which are captured and condensed into a clear, colorless to light yellow oil with a powerful, fresh scent.

The main component is 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol), which is present in high concentration in this variant (often 70 to 85 percent). Additionally, the oil contains α-pinene, limonene and γ-terpinene.

Benefits of Eucalyptus Globulus

Helps breathe freely
The fresh, cool scent of eucalyptus gives a feeling of free, spacious breathing. A great choice to diffuse during winter or when having a cold.

Clarifies mind and concentration
The clear, sharp scent awakens the mind again and helps with concentration. A real pick-me-up as an alternative to coffee during a long workday.

Invigorates the body
Processed in a massage oil, eucalyptus gives an invigorating, penetrating feeling that's great for tired or stiff muscles after sports or exertion.

Refreshes the house
A few drops in homemade cleaning products based on vinegar or baking soda makes your house smell extra fresh after cleaning.

How do you use Eucalyptus Globulus?

Always dilute essential oil in a carrier oil or butter when using on the skin. For homemade care products we recommend a working dosage of 1 percent (1 gram per 100 grams of product).

In a diffuser
Put 3 to 5 drops in an aroma diffuser for a refreshing, uplifting atmosphere. Beautiful to combine with 3 drops Rosemary and 3 drops Peppermint for a focus blend.

In a steam bath
Add 2 to 3 drops of eucalyptus to a bowl of hot water. Hold your head over it with a towel over your head and breathe calmly in and out for an invigorating moment.

In a massage oil
Mix 1 percent eucalyptus in a carrier oil such as Jojoba or Sweet Almond Oil. A great combination for a sports massage or for tired muscles.

In a shower scrub or bath salt
Add 1 percent eucalyptus to a homemade bath salt or shower scrub for an uplifting morning routine.

In homemade cleaning products
Add eucalyptus to a natural all-purpose cleaner or bathroom spray for a fresh scent and cleansing effect.

What is the difference with Eucalyptus Radiata?

Eucalyptus Globulus and Eucalyptus Radiata are the two most used eucalyptus oils. Globulus has a higher content of 1,8-cineole and is therefore more powerful and sharper in scent. Radiata is softer and milder, making it a better choice for children and sensitive users. For adults seeking a powerful refreshing effect, Globulus is the most beloved choice.

Tips when using Eucalyptus

  • Store eucalyptus in a cool, dark place to slow oxidation.
  • Always close the bottle tightly after use.
  • Test first on a small piece of skin before using the oil for the first time.
  • Always work with grams and percentages, not with drops. Drops vary in size and make it difficult to stay within safe limits.
  • Eucalyptus blends beautifully with peppermint, rosemary, lavender, tea tree and citrus oils such as lemon and orange.

Precautions and side effects

Eucalyptus Globulus is a powerful essential oil and not suitable for young children (under 6 years) due to the high content of 1,8-cineole, which can cause breathing reactions in small children. For use with children, Eucalyptus Radiata is a safer choice.

Always use diluted, never pure on the skin. Test first on a small spot. Avoid contact with eyes and sensitive areas. Not intended for ingestion.

Not recommended for use during pregnancy without consultation with an expert. When using medication or when in doubt, always consult your doctor first. Keep out of reach of children.
