Sustainability is trendy. Sustainability is in. And we are glad about that. Living sustainably really doesn’t have to be difficult. Start small or do more and more. I find sustainable living fun, very easy and inexpensive. And you know what? The more you do, the more enjoyable it becomes! With these 8 tips, you will take another step forward!
1. Go for sustainable plants. At Sprinkler you can find sustainable greenery. Some of their houseplants are organically grown! Or, even better, grow your own houseplants. Some plants produce new young plants by themselves, such as the Pancake plant. You only need to snip off these cuttings and place them in a pot of potting compost. So lovely to watch your own plant baby grow! The Monstera and Aloe Vera plant are also very easy to propagate. Don’t have any cuttings yourself yet? There are more and more places where you can swap cuttings! Do note: cuttings can only be taken in spring or summer. Otherwise the chance of survival is unfortunately not that great.
2.Give time instead of gifts. Do something fun together, make memories. Isn’t that the loveliest gift you can give?
3.Make your own cosmetic products. This saves a lot of packaging material and you know exactly what you are putting on your skin when you use it. That is really nice. Did you know that new recipes are added to our website every week? This way you can make your own products very easily!

4.Sustainable flexible working, meetings or organising other events? De Groene Afslag is a creative meeting place where enthusiasm for a sustainable future takes centre stage. A truly inspiring venue!
5.Pick up any litter you come across. On the street, in the forest or on the beach — wherever you go, you will occasionally see litter lying around. And no, you don’t have to comb the entire forest looking for litter straight away. But do start small.

6.Avoid single-use products as much as possible. Go for reusable cotton pads. Oh, and do you know the Food Huggers yet? With these you keep cut vegetables and fruit fresh for longer without needing plastic or cling film. I think they’re fantastic!
7.Empty your mailbox, tidy up your photos and videos. The holidays are over again. Lovely photos and videos have been taken. Sorting them out? Oh, that can wait until later. And then, months or even years later, it is still on your to-do list. We may not think about it very readily, but old emails, photos and videos are often stored in a cloud. When you switch off your phone or computer, those data centres with all your emails, photos and videos simply stay on. Not very sustainable!
8.Take action. Look at local projects in your area or larger projects such as The Ocean Cleanup.
But above all, inspire others! Tell others about your good tips, inspire people to take action. You can do this online too! Strike up conversations with people. We can learn so much from one another. Share your tips on social media and tag @naturalheroes. We are very curious to hear your tips!
