Bee-autiful wax

Yellow beeswax is the unprocessed wax as the bees make it. Initially the wax is colorless and transparent when it comes from the bee's body, but the bees add pollen and propolis to it which gives it its beautiful yellow to golden brown color. The difference with white beeswax is that with yellow beeswax the color has not been extracted and the propolis and honey have been preserved.

Just like honey, beeswax has the property that it remains shelf-stable for a long time. It has a naturally purifying effect and therefore helps support the skin's regenerative capacity.

Beeswax is usually added to creams and lotions for a bit more firmness, because it only melts at higher temperatures (around 65ºC), but because it also works great as a moisturizer it is a valuable ingredient in itself.

Using beeswax

Beeswax is ideal to use as an ingredient in homemade lip balms and lotions. It makes your product easier to use because it becomes a bit firmer and thicker.

Beeswax must first be heated and melted before you can use it in skincare products. Do this au bain-marie so the wax doesn't get too hot. Once the wax is liquid, you add the other oils you want in your product and heat everything for a little while longer (if you add a cold oil to the beeswax it will solidify immediately and you won't be able to mix it anymore). Then pour into a glass jar or bottle, let it cool down and your product is ready for use!
