Why is Corn Starch so good?

Corn starch, sometimes also called cornstarch, is starch that is extracted from corn. This starch contains magnesium and calcium and is for this reason exceptionally good for the care and strengthening of your skin. It helps effectively with dry skin and skin irritations such as burns and insect bites.

In addition, Corn Starch is excellent for removing oil stains. Apply some starch to the stain and let it absorb the oil. Then clean away the stain with your usual cleaning techniques.

How is Corn Starch made?

Corn starch is the starch that is extracted from corn. To separate the oil from the corn kernel, the corn is soaked for a few days in a solution of sulfur dioxide. The released starch contains proteins and sulfur. Since sulfur can be quite dangerous, it is thoroughly washed so that the sulfur content is safe for use. Then the protein is removed from the starch by centrifuging the substance. Finally, the starch is dried and packaged.

How to use it:

If you want to use Corn Starch to care for (burned) skin or irritation from insect bites, mix three tablespoons of Corn Starch with a little cold water. It should get about the same thickness as peanut butter. Apply the mixture (with a cotton pad) to the areas that need care and let it dry. You can best use this before you go to sleep so that it has enough time to take effect.

Corn starch in combination with Baking Soda is a natural alternative for dry shampoo. It is very easy to make yourself. Mix 30 to 40 grams of Corn Starch with 2 teaspoons of Baking Soda. Store this in a sealed container and when your hair starts to get greasy, sprinkle the mix in your hair and brush and comb your hair well.
