Isopropyl Alcohol is a strong disinfectant that kills bacteria and fungi. The alcohol dissolves fats and carbohydrates and breaks down the structure of proteins and nucleic acids. Bacteria and fungi largely consist of fats, carbohydrates, proteins and nucleic acids and are therefore broken down when they come into contact with alcohol. Viruses are often dependent on a living bacterium, which means viruses can also disappear when bacteria are killed.

No wonder then that Isopropyl Alcohol is an important ingredient in cleaning products, but also in eyeglass cleaner, nail polish remover and hand sanitizer.

Of course, alcohol also kills healthy bacteria and fungi, making it not advisable to use it as a skin cleanser. If it occurs in small amounts in skincare products, because it has been used as a solvent for example, that doesn't hurt and you don't need to worry.

Usable as solvent

Isopropyl Alcohol can be used as a solvent for certain ingredients. Essential oils for example are not soluble in water, but are soluble in alcohol. Many plant extracts are also added to skincare products as alcohol extracts (in the form of a tincture).

How do you use it?

Use Isopropyl Alcohol as an ingredient in cleaning products or in small amounts in skincare products. In skincare products, do not let more than 2% of the total ingredients consist of Isopropyl Alcohol . Additionally, you can use it to make your own hand sanitizer, nail polish remover or other cleaner. Always dilute it for these products as well with at least 25% water.

It is not possible to use Isopropyl Alcohol as an ingredient in combination with Xanthan Gum.

Note: Isopropyl Alcohol , including the vapor that comes from it, is highly flammable. Therefore never use a heat source when working with this product and always work in a well-ventilated space. It is recommended to wear protective gloves and eye protection. In case of ingestion, contact with eyes or prolonged exposure, consult a doctor.
