What is Demineralized Water?

Demineralized water (also called deionized water) is filtered tap water. Demineralized water is free from the negative ions of the salts and minerals that occur in water. This leaves you with only the positive ions, resulting in clean and clear water.

Demineralized water has a neutral pH value and is free from electrolytes. This makes it a great ingredient for DIY skincare products and water-based cleaning products.

Free from minerals and electrolytes

Tap water is not demineralized, which means the minerals in the water can affect other ingredients in your DIY skincare product or cleaning product. In fact, many minerals are electrolytes that can disrupt the function of electrolyte-sensitive ingredients.

Pure

Demineralized water is widely used in cosmetics and skincare products. Because the water is so clean, you prevent unnecessary bacteria from getting into your homemade products. You don't want those bacteria on your skin and certainly not spreading through your house when you're cleaning.

How do you use it?

In cosmetics and skincare products

Many skincare products are water-based, which means they are liquid and water is the main ingredient. Think of toners, soap and makeup removers. If you're going to make one of these products yourself, it's a good idea to use Demineralized Water instead of tap water.

In cleaning products

Cleaning products often have water as their main ingredient. To prevent bacteria from growing in your cleaning products, it's wise to use Demineralized Water.

DIY natural all-purpose cleaner

Mix 500 ml Demineralized Water with 3 tbsp Castile Soap, 10 drops Tea Tree Oil and 10 drops Lavender Essential Oil. Pour into an empty bottle with a Spray Top and shake well.

Can you drink it?

That's not recommended. While the water no longer contains unfavorable minerals, the beneficial minerals have also been filtered out. If you want to drink water, it's wiser to choose mineral water.

Difference between demineralized and distilled water

Demineralized water is not the same as distilled water, which is even purer. The hydrosols we sell are all distilled waters.
