Make sure all your supplies and materials are ready and that everything is clean.

Bring water to the boil in a thick-bottomed pan or use a hot plate.

Weigh out all the ingredients from each phase into a separate heat-resistant measuring beaker.

Note the weight of Phase B including the measuring beaker so that we can top up the evaporated water after heating.

Heat Phase A, B and C. Stir Phase A during heating until the mixture becomes a smooth paste.

Check the temperature. As soon as Phase B is at 70 degrees Celsius, take it out of the pan, weigh it and top up the lost water until you reach the desired weight as noted earlier.

Make sure Phase C has completely melted and then combine all the heated phases in this order - Phase B into Phase C and finally add Phase A.

Turn off the heat and take the beaker out of the pan.

Stir for 5 minutes until everything is well mixed.

When the temperature is at 40 degrees Celsius, start adding the cool-down phase. Begin with Phase D, followed by E.

Stir gently until you reach room temperature.

Add Phase F and stir until everything is well mixed.

Measure the pH. Use an acid such as lactic acid solution to lower the pH or a base such as sodium bicarbonate solution to raise it until you reach the desired pH of 4.0 to 4.5.

Put it into a jar and label your creation.

Usage

You can use this once a week instead of your normal shampoo. Scoop a generous amount out of the jar and apply it directly to your scalp, massage gently and work your way to the tips of your hair. Rinse out well and follow with your favourite conditioner.
