Menthol & Lavender Body Cream

Make your own luxurious body cream to keep your dry skin hydrated, with menthol for an extra cooling sensation! It is made with Rice Bran oil, a good source of vitamin E to nourish your skin, and Kokum butter for that extra barrier layer to prevent the skin from drying out. Lavender has been added for its anti-inflammatory properties and relaxing aroma.

Make sure all your tools and equipment are ready and ensure that everything is sterilised.

Bring a layer of water to the boil in a heavy-bottomed pan or use a hotplate.

Weigh out all your ingredients. Combine each phase in a separate heat-resistant measuring cup.

Note down the weight of Phase B including the measuring cup, so that we can top up the evaporated water after heating.

Heat Phase A and B until everything has completely melted. You can stir while heating so that it melts evenly.

Check the temperature. Once Phase B reaches 70 degrees, weigh it and top up the lost water content until you reach the desired weight as noted earlier. You may add a little more water so that less is lost during evaporation.

Put it back on the pan or hotplate, check the temperature and make sure that each phase is within at least 5 degrees Celsius of each other.

Turn off the heat. Pour Phase B into Phase A and then add Phase C and mix with a stick blender. Pulse for 5-10 seconds or until it turns white, which is an indication that the mixture has emulsified.

Stir for 5 minutes and remove the beaker from the pan. Keep stirring until it cools down.

When the mixture has cooled back down to 40 degrees, add the ingredients from Phase D and E.

Mix gently until the mixture has reached room temperature. (approx. 20 degrees)

Measure the pH. Use an acid such as Lactic acid solution to lower the pH or a base such as Sodium bicarbonate solution to raise it until you reach the desired pH of 5.0 to 5.5.

Put it in a jar or a bottle with a pump and label your creation.
