Description
What is Vanilla CO2 Extract (12% Vanillin)?
Vanilla CO2 Extract has the soft, luxurious aroma of vanilla. It doesn't smell like vanilla perfume but like fresh vanilla pods (vanilla beans), because that is what it is made from.
With more than 250 flavour components, fermented vanilla bean is one of the most complex flavours that exist. Fermented vanilla beans have a hay-like, metallic, phenolic, sweet base note. What? Yes, super complex indeed.
Vanilla CO2 has a beautifully balanced scent and flavour that can be described as soft-spicy, rich, warm, sweet, rum-like, resinous and woody.
Vanilla CO2 is a delightful ingredient to incorporate into your homemade care products.
Did you know this Vanilla CO2 extract is included in our All Purpose Balm?
How is Vanilla CO2 Extract made?
Vanilla CO2 Extract is obtained through CO2 extraction, in which high pressure releases aromatic substances from the vanilla bean (Vanilla Planifolia).
Why is vanilla so expensive?
Almost all vanilla grown around the world is hand-pollinated. This makes it a very costly and labour-intensive crop.
It takes about 4 to 5 years after planting before vanilla produces its first flowers. 600 hand-pollinated flowers are needed to produce just 1 kilo of cured vanilla pods. These are then hand-picked while still green and sold to specialised processing companies where they are sorted, blanched, steamed and sun-dried. Then they are sorted again, dried in the shade and fermented while being continuously assessed for aroma and individually checked for quality.
No wonder vanilla is such a precious commodity!
What makes it so special?
Officially there is no Vanilla Essential Oil, because vanilla beans do not release aromatic oils during the traditional steam distillation process. Thanks to CO2 extraction, the aromatic compounds remain in the oil (vanillin), so this CO2 Extract carries the delicious aroma of vanilla.
Warm, round and soft aroma
The warm, inviting scent of Vanilla brings you back home to yourself. The aroma feels calming and gives you a sense of comfort.
Vanilla CO2 Extract has a beautiful aroma that combines well with fresh, sharp scents, which immediately become soft and friendly. For example, think of a combination with Peppermint, Ylang Ylang or Sandalwood and discover how these scents are transformed by adding Vanilla CO2 Extract.
How do you use it?
Use in Perfume, Massage Oil or DIY Creations
Vanilla CO2 is wonderful to add to oil-based perfumes, massage oils or other care products..
Use Vanilla CO2 Extract diluted with a base oil or incorporated into a care product. Do not let more than 3% of the final product consist of Vanilla CO2. Make sure not to heat the Vanilla CO2 and add it to the cooling phase (below 40 degrees) of your recipe.
Can I use Vanilla CO2 in a diffuser?
The answer is No. Not only is it a waste to evaporate the vanilla, the viscous substance also will not be properly distributed in your diffuser.
Can't get it out of the bottle?
Depending on room temperature, it may be necessary to place the bottle briefly in a layer of warm water (1 to 2 cm) so the extract becomes liquid and the drops come out more easily. In cold temperatures this is often necessary.
