What is Neem Oil?

In Ayurveda, an ancient way of life and healing doctrine from India, Neem Oil is seen as an enormously powerful remedy for skin, hair, nails and teeth.

Neem Oil is obtained by cold pressing the seeds and fruits of the neem tree, the Melia Azadirachta. It is a thick oil and solidifies at colder temperatures.

Good to know: Neem Oil is not liquid at room temperature. If you want to use the oil in liquid form, you need to warm it up first (for oil pulling you can put it solidified in your mouth, then it will melt naturally).

Benefits

Skin

Neem Oil is packed with antioxidants which can slow down the aging process of the skin. The vitamins and essential fatty acids in Neem Oil maintain the elasticity of the skin and can reduce wrinkles. In other words: Neem Oil gives you a radiant, youthful appearance again.

Hair

Besides smooth skin, Neem Oil can also give you a radiant head of hair! The oil strengthens the hair roots and stimulates hair growth. You can even use the oil as a conditioner or in a DIY shampoo, for shiny hair.

Nails

Regularly apply a drop of Neem Oil to your nails and cuticles to keep them healthy and shiny.

How do you use Neem Oil?

Use Neem Oil as an ingredient in DIY care products. The oil combines well with other natural oils.

To rinse your mouth

Oil pulling is an Ayurvedic practice where you rinse your mouth with oil for about 20 minutes. Then you spit the oil out in the trash can (otherwise the sink gets clogged). Optionally mix with Coconut Oil or Sesame oil and add a maximum of 1% Peppermint Essential Oil to your bottle for a better taste experience.

In your hair

Apply neem oil to your hair and let it absorb for 30 to 60 minutes, then wash it as normal. Takes too long? Then mix a few drops of the oil with your shampoo to still benefit from the healing properties of neem.
