Instructions

Set out all your tools and make sure they have all been disinfected.

Set up a hot plate or an au bain-marie bath in a shallow pan on the stove.

Weigh out all your ingredients and combine each phase. Mix the glycerine with the xanthan gum while stirring to prevent clumping.

Weigh Phase A before you start heating and note down the weight.

Heat Phase A and Phase C while keeping an eye on the temperature. The temperature must not rise above 75 degrees.

When both phases are at the same temperature or 5-10 degrees apart, remove Phase A from the pan/hot plate and measure the weight. Add the liquid needed to reach the exact weight you noted down earlier.

Pour Phase A into Phase B. Use a stick blender or mini mixer and pulse twice until they are combined, then add Phase C. Blend on the lowest setting for about 5-15 seconds in 2-second intervals until the mixture turns milky, which means it has been blended together.

Use a spatula to keep mixing the cream until it cools down below 45 degrees. You will notice the mixture starting to thicken.

Add Phase D very slowly while stirring constantly until everything is well mixed.

Then add Phase E and mix well again.

Measure the pH: Weigh 2 grams of the cream into a clean container (a deep bowl or a tall glass/beaker works well). Add 18 grams of demineralised water.

Adjust the pH of the cream if necessary. Add a lactic acid solution to lower the pH or a baking soda solution to raise it. A pH of between 5 and 5.5 is perfect.

Package your lotion into a jar or a glass bottle with a lotion dispenser.
