  2. Activated Charcoal & Tea Tree Face Bar
Activated Charcoal & Tea Tree Face Bar

A mild, homemade face bar for normal to oily skin, with Activated Charcoal, Green Tea and Tea Tree. Based on Coco Foam and Coco Betaine, both derived from the coconut, this bar gently cleanses without leaving your skin tight or dry. The Activated Charcoal gives the bar its beautiful grey-black colour and helps to lift impurities from the skin, the Green Tea adds a dose of antioxidants and Bisabolol soothes while cleansing. A lovely daily routine in a compact, plastic-free format.

Instructions

1
Make sure your work surface is well tidied and sanitised. Wear a face mask while working with the powders, as CocoFoam SCI and Activated Charcoal can release fine particles into the air that can irritate the airways. Also work, preferably, in a quiet room without children or pets.
2
Weigh out all the ingredients carefully and set them out per phase in separate bowls. This makes it easier to work in an organised way later.
3
Put all the powders of Phase A together in a roomy, clean bowl: the CocoFoam SCI, White Clay, Activated Charcoal and Green Tea Extract. Stir them well together with a whisk or spatula until you have an even grey-black mixture without streaks or lumps.
4
Now add Phase B to the powders: first the Cocamidopropyl Betaine, stir well, and then the Decyl Glucoside. Mix everything gently with the spatula until the mixture starts to become moist and sticky. It still feels rough, that's fine.
5
Finally, add Phase C, the Sweet Almond Oil, the Tea Tree Essential Oil and the Alpha-Bisabolol. Stir gently once more.
6
Add the Preservative Eco from Phase D last, so that it is distributed evenly through the mass.
7
Put on your gloves and now knead the mixture with your hands, just like bread dough. Keep kneading until you have a firm, kneadable mass that holds together as one whole. This can take a few minutes and requires some force; the mixture feels crumbly at first but binds together through the warmth of your hands.
8
Scrape in any leftovers still sticking to the bowl and keep kneading until everything is absorbed into one smooth dough ball.
9
Shape the bar with your hands, first into a ball and then press it gently flat into your desired shape. You can also use a soap mould for a neater finish.
10
Leave the bar to cure undisturbed at room temperature, in a dry, sheltered spot, for about 2 days. Keep the bar out of the reach of children and pets while drying.
11
Test whether the bar has cured well by pressing on it gently. If it feels firm and no longer soft, then your bar is ready for use. Label your creation and store it in a dry place, so it stays nice for the longest time.

Usage

Wet the bar and rub it between your hands until you have a soft lather. You can also roll the bar directly over your face in circular movements. Gently massage your face for at least a minute, so the ingredients can do their work, and then rinse off well with lukewarm water.

Let your bar dry properly after each use on a soap rack or in an open-air soap bag, so it stays nice for longer.
