These bath bombs are packed with natural ingredients such as sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), citric acid and plant-based oils that nourish your skin and pamper your senses. Unlike many conventional bath bombs, natural bath bombs contain no synthetic fragrances, colourants or preservatives. Our bath bombs are carefully formulated with the finest botanical extracts, essential oils and clay powders.
A great many conventional bath bombs contain ingredients that you would rather avoid. Here are a few ingredients you often find in conventional bath bombs and would do well to steer clear of:
Synthetic Fragrances
Often labelled as "fragrance" or "parfum", these are synthetic scents. Many synthetic fragrances can cause allergic reactions and skin irritation.
Parabens
These are preservatives used to extend the shelf life of cosmetic products and to prevent the growth of mould and bacteria. Parabens can disrupt the hormonal balance by behaving like oestrogen in the body. They can also be harmful to the environment because they do not break down easily.
Sulphates (e.g. SLS and SLES)
Sulphates such as sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulphate (SLES) are cleansing and foaming agents widely used in conventional bath bombs. Sulphates can dry out and irritate the skin. They are also harmful to aquatic organisms when they end up in the environment, as they are difficult to break down.
Artificial colourants
Some artificial colourants can cause skin irritation and allergic reactions. They can also contribute to water pollution when they end up in the environment, as they are often not biodegradable.
PEGs (Polyethylene glycols)
The main safety risks of using PEGs in products such as bath bombs relate to the manufacturing process and the by-products it generates.
Phthalates
Phthalates can have endocrine-disrupting effects and lead to various adverse health problems.
One of the biggest benefits of natural bath bombs is that they are free from synthetic substances and harmful chemicals. Traditional bath products often contain ingredients that can irritate the skin or even pose health risks. Natural bath bombs, by contrast, are made from safe, natural ingredients that are gentle on both your skin and the environment.

Prefer to get stuck in yourself, or make a bath bomb with your child(ren)? Alongside the ready-made bath bombs and the DIY kit we have of course also put the recipe online. With it you can easily vary things using your own favourite ingredients.
Using a natural bath bomb is simple and fun! Fill your bath with warm water and then drop the bath bomb in. Enjoy the fizzing effect and the wonderful scents that are released. Relax and let the nourishing ingredients do their work, leaving your skin feeling soft and hydrated.

INCI: citric acid
About this ingredient
Citric acid is a plant-based acid that occurs naturally in citrus fruits and is fully biodegradable.
Why is it in the bath bomb?
Citric acid reacts with baking soda in water, releasing carbon dioxide gas and creating the fizzing effect. Citric acid also provides a gentle exfoliation for the skin and makes the bathwater slightly acidic, which helps to soften and cleanse the skin.
INCI: Sodium Bicarbonate
About this ingredient
Baking soda, also known as sodium bicarbonate, is a mildly alkaline salt
Why is it in the natural bath bomb?
The main reason baking soda is used in the bath bomb is to create the characteristic fizzing effect. When baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is combined with citric acid and exposed to water, a chemical reaction takes place. This reaction produces carbon dioxide gas, which creates the fizzing and foaming effect that makes bath bombs so popular.
Baking soda is mildly alkaline. This helps to balance the pH value of the bathwater. Baking soda also has cleansing properties. It helps to remove dirt and oil from the skin, leaving your skin feeling clean and fresh after the bathing ritual! In addition, baking soda has a mild exfoliating effect and helps to soothe skin irritation.

INCI: Sodium lauryl sulfoacetate
About this ingredient
SLSA is a mild foaming agent derived from coconut oil. Unlike some more aggressive cleansing agents, such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), SLSA is far gentler and does not irritate the skin or eyes.
Why is it in the natural bath bomb?
SLSA helps bath bombs create a rich foam when they dissolve in water. This makes it a lovely addition to the bath bombs. Despite its mildness, SLSA still provides effective cleansing by removing oil and dirt from the skin. SLSA ensures the bath bomb cleanses gently without drying out or irritating the skin. This is especially important because baths often last a long time and you do not want your skin to feel dry or irritated afterwards.
INCI: Kaolin Extract
About this ingredient
White clay is a soft clay that is rich in minerals. It is one of the mildest and most versatile types of clay
Why is it in the natural bath bomb?
White clay has the ability to draw impurities, excess oil and dirt out of the skin. This leaves your skin feeling clean and fresh after bathing. White clay also has a soothing effect on the skin, which is lovely even for the most sensitive skin types! White clay is rich in minerals such as silicon, calcium, magnesium and zinc. These minerals are needed by the skin; they help to repair and maintain a healthy skin barrier.

INCI: Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Seed Oil
About this ingredient
Sweet almond oil is a popular plant-based oil extracted from the seeds of the Sweet Almond tree (Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis). Sweet almond oil contains a lovely blend of fatty acids, primarily oleic acid and linoleic acid, but also palmitic acid and stearic acid. It also contains vitamins E and A.
Why is it in the natural bath bomb?
Thanks to its various fatty acids, the oil can penetrate deep into the skin. This helps to hydrate, nourish and soften the skin for a long time, which is lovely after a bathing ritual! The oil has a softening and soothing effect on the skin, helping to reduce irritation and redness. The oil makes the bathwater silky-soft and creates a true spa experience. It helps to create a noticeable softness on the skin, making the bathing experience even more pleasant.
INCI: Witch Hazel Water, Alcohol
About this ingredient
Witch Hazel (Hamamelis Virginiana) is a shrub that grows naturally in North America and Japan. The leaves, twigs and bark of the shrub are distilled into a water we know as ‘witch hazel’.
Why is it in the natural bath bomb?
In the bath bomb, various dry ingredients such as baking soda, citric acid and clay are mixed together. These dry ingredients need to be bound well in order to create a consistent and stable bath bomb. Witch hazel acts as an effective binding agent by holding the dry ingredients together without adding too much water.
One of the challenges in making bath bombs is managing moisture. Too much moisture can cause an early reaction between baking soda and citric acid. This can make the bath bomb start fizzing before it is in the water. Witch Hazel contains moisture, but in smaller amounts than water, which helps to bind the ingredients. In addition, witch hazel has a mild, liquid consistency that helps to create a smooth texture for the bath bomb. This ensures the bath bomb is firm enough to hold its shape during drying and use, but also falls apart easily when it comes into contact with water. An indispensable addition, then!

About this ingredient
