What is Tucuma Butter?

Tucuma Butter is pressed from the pits of the Tucumã palm (Astrocaryum vulgare), a resilient palm that is native to the terra firme of the Amazon region. The butter is cold-pressed so that the natural fatty acids and nourishing substances are optimally preserved.

The Tucumã palm is a particularly resilient tree that sprouts again even after fire and forms multiple trunks throughout its life. The fruits have been used by local communities for generations, from the fiber-rich leaves for basket weaving to the brightly colored pulp that is eaten raw or processed into juice and ice cream. The pit, from which this butter is extracted, contains a concentration of fatty acids that closely resembles that of palm kernels, but with a higher and more favorable melting point.

The butter is firm in the jar but melts as soon as it comes into contact with the skin. The color ranges from light yellow to warm orange, thanks to the naturally present beta-carotene in the fruit. The scent is soft and nutty with a subtle tropical note.

Thanks to the high content of lauric acid and myristic acid, the butter intensely nourishes the skin and forms a thin, transparent layer that helps retain moisture without clogging pores. Therefore, the butter feels comfortable on both dry and oily skin. For hair, the butter penetrates into the cuticle, where it can replenish structural lipids. Soap: Use 5–15% of the total oil phase for a nourishing result.
