What is Olivem 900?

Olivem 900 is a plant-based emulsifier based on olive oil that helps to stably mix water and oil. It is mainly used in water-in-oil (w/o) formulas, but does more than just emulsify. Thanks to the olive fatty acids, it also works as a nourishing, functional fat that contributes to skin comfort and texture.

The raw material comes from Italy and consists of a combination of olive fatty acids and plant-based sorbitan. Olivem 900 appears as ivory-colored, waxy flakes with a soft, virtually neutral scent. This leaves room for essential oils or completely fragrance-free formulas.

In cosmetic formulas, Olivem 900 helps to keep water and oil firmly together, especially in richer creams and balms. Additionally, it is very suitable for evenly distributing powders, pigments and mineral UV filters such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. This ensures a smooth texture, even color and streak-free application.

How do you use Olivem 900?

• Melt Olivem 900 into the oil phase at 70–75 °C.
• For w/o formulas, slowly add the warm water phase to the oil while stirring well.

Recommended dosages

• W/O emulsions or foundations (main emulsifier): 5–7.5%

• Cleansing balms and whipped body butters (functional fat): 1–10%

• Powder dispersion or lipogels: 1–10%

• Functional lipid for skin comfort: 1–3%

• O/W co-emulsifier: 1–2%

• W/O or W/S co-emulsifier: 2–3%
