Description
What is Melissa Essential Oil?
Melissa essential oil comes from the leaves of lemon balm (Melissa officinalis). The oil is extracted through steam distillation of freshly harvested leaves.
The scent is sparkling lemon-like, green and herbal, with a gentle hint of honey and mint. Fresh and uplifting.
The oil helps against shiny skin and to calm restless skin. In a diffuser, the scent provides peace and a sunny feeling in the home. Wonderful in a soothing cream, massage oil or in the diffuser for a pick-me-up.
What are the benefits of Melissa Essential Oil?
Uplifting, sunny scent
The high content of citral provides a clear citrus scent that helps make the day brighter. Pleasant in the diffuser or in a personal blend.
Supports clear skin
Citral, geraniol and citronellal have cleansing properties that help keep pores clean and reduce shine.
Soothes
Beta-caryophyllene and citronellal are known for their skin-friendly and calming effect on restless skin.
Provides a refreshing effect
The fresh, lightly minty top note provides a cool feeling. Wonderful in aftersun and foot products.
Fine addition for scalp care
The citrus-herbal scent makes a scalp massage relaxing and leaves hair smelling fresh.
Very little needed
Due to the high proportion of scent-active substances, you only need a small amount to make a blend speak. This makes the oil economical in use.
How do you use Melissa Essential Oil?
Face: Maximum 0.15% in the cool phase below 40°C. Never use undiluted.
Body (cream, lotion, balm): 0.05–0.15% in the cool phase. Never use undiluted.
Shower or scrub: 0.3–1% in the cool phase. Start low and build up.
Massage oil: 0.05–0.15% in a carrier oil like jojoba or sweet almond.
Diffuser: Start with a small amount in water and add as needed. Combines beautifully with lavender or orange.
Bath: Mix first with a bath oil or liquid soap. Not directly into the water.
Note: naturally contains allergens such as citral, geraniol and limonene. Always do a patch test. Melissa is a strong oil, always use highly diluted.
What makes Melissa Essential Oil so special?
True Melissa oil is rare because the plant yields extremely little oil. A large amount of fresh leaves is needed for a small bottle. Cheaper variants often contain lemongrass instead of true melissa. This oil is 100% pure Melissa officinalis, without adulteration.
