If you are looking for a natural way to care for your hair and skin, then Castor oil might just be the oil you are after! Castor oil has lately become particularly well known as a powerful aid for internal balance. This is done with the popular castor oil pack (also known as castor packing), a traditional method in which a cloth soaked in warm castor oil is applied to the body to promote circulation. In this blog you will read about the main benefits of castor oil for your skin and hair, and how you can use a castor pack to support your health.
Castor oil, also known as wonder oil, is a natural oil that has been treasured for centuries for its medicinal, cosmetic and therapeutic properties. This plant-based oil is obtained from the seeds of the castor plant (Ricinus Communis), which is found mainly in tropical regions. What makes this plant so special are the seeds from which the valuable castor oil is pressed.
Castor oil has a unique chemical composition; it is full of ricinoleic acid, a rare fatty acid known for its hydrating, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. This makes it an ideal addition to your skincare routine or as an ingredient in DIY care products. Dry skin, spots or dry hair, Castor oil can help you!
In Ayurvedic medicine and traditional Chinese medicine it has also been used for centuries for its healing and balancing properties.
Castor oil comes from the seeds of the castor plant and is made by pressing these seeds. First the seeds are thoroughly cleaned and dried. They are then pressed to extract the oil. What you are left with is a thick, yellowish oil with a subtle nutty scent.
There is also a dark variant of castor oil, known as Jamaican Black Castor Oil. This is produced in a slightly different way from the ‘normal’ variant. With this method, the seeds of the castor plant are first roasted, which gives that deeper, darker colour.

The way Castor oil works is mainly thanks to its high content of ricinoleic acid, a unique fatty acid. About 90% of the fatty acid content of Castor oil is ricinoleic acid.
Ricinoleic acid helps your skin absorb other substances better, and because of this it is even used in the medical world to take medicines up through the skin more efficiently. Because the molecules of Castor oil are small, the oil can easily penetrate to the deeper layers of the skin.
Anti-microbial
Ricinoleic acid helps to inhibit the growth of certain bacteria and fungi.
Anti-inflammatory
Ricinoleic acid has anti-inflammatory properties, so it is perfect for impure skin or for spots.
Hydrating
Castor oil retains moisture and reduces moisture loss, thereby keeping your skin hydrated for a long time.
High viscosity / thickness
Thanks to its thick texture, castor oil forms a long-lasting protective layer on the skin. Ideal for soothing and protecting irritated and sensitive skin.

Skin benefits of castor oil
Castor oil really is a wonder product for the skin! It has hydrating properties and can help to soothe dry skin. The ricinoleic acid in castor oil helps to maintain the moisture balance in the skin and can reduce irritation. Do you suffer from dry, red or irritated skin? Castor oil is a perfect addition to your skincare routine. Castor oil soothes the skin on dry and chapped spots.
Wound healing and castor oil
Castor oil is not only good for daily skincare, but can also help with healing small wounds. Castor oil stimulates the growth of new tissue and creates a protective barrier on the skin. In addition, it provides a moist environment that can speed up the healing process.
Reduction of spots and impurities
The anti-inflammatory action of Castor oil is said to have a positive effect on spots and impurities. It helps to prevent and reduce blemishes and can also improve the texture of your skin. Are you looking for a natural way to purify your skin? Then castor oil is absolutely worth a try.
Softening of scars
Castor oil can help to reduce the visibility of scars by stimulating cell renewal and hydrating the skin. Make a simple scar serum by mixing castor oil with rosehip oil and vitamin E.

For deep hydration you can use castor oil as a night cream. Apply a small amount to your face and gently massage it into your skin before you go to bed. The oil helps to nourish and soften your skin overnight, so you wake up in the morning with fresh, hydrated skin.

Hair strengthening with Castor oil
Castor oil could contribute to improved hair growth. Ricinoleic acid in castor oil helps to improve the blood circulation to the scalp, which can contribute to stronger and healthier hair growth. It nourishes the hair roots and strengthens the hair shaft, making your hair look fuller and healthier.
Castor oil for hair growth
Castor oil has become especially popular as a natural means of stimulating hair growth. Although the scientific evidence for this is still minimal, the oil nourishes in a natural way. It is also a widely used ingredient in conventional lash serums. The oil contains omega-6 essential fatty acids which are known to improve hair growth and stimulate circulation. This is important for getting nutrients to the hair follicles.
To make the most of castor oil, you can use it as a hair mask. Mix castor oil with Rosemary essential oil and apply this mixture to your scalp and hair. Cover your hair with a warm towel and leave the mask on for 30 minutes to an hour before rinsing it out with a mild shampoo.
In the evening, after cleansing, put a drop of castor oil on a lash brush and comb your lashes. Leave the oil on overnight and remove it the next morning when cleansing your face. Or make this lovely lash serum very easily yourself.

A hair oil treatment can make a big difference for extremely dry hair. By warming the oil, it penetrates more deeply into the hair cuticles and nourishes the hair follicle. Olive oil, also known as ‘liquid gold’, is a wonder product for soft hair. Castor oil gives a fuller head of hair, Argan oil adds shine to the hair and Jojoba Oil strengthens the hair. As the icing on the cake, Peppermint oil has antimicrobial properties that can help to combat dandruff and other scalp conditions. With this warm hair oil, bring life and nourishment into your hair.

Laxative
In ancient Rome and Greece, castor oil was used as a laxative for about 2,500 years. Of all its benefits, this is therefore the one most mentioned in the literature. The ricinoleic acid in the oil stimulates the muscles of the intestines and promotes bowel movements. Castor oil is classified by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as generally recognised as safe and effective for use as a stimulant laxative. Because we are a cosmetics company, we cannot give advice on dosage and internal use of Castor oil.
Immune system
Castor oil can have a positive influence on the immune system and liver function. It is mainly used for detoxifying the liver.
Castor oil, applied as a pack, is traditionally used to reduce inflammation and digestive problems, to support gynaecological complaints and to support detoxifying the body. Castor oil packs also stimulate healthy blood circulation.
A castor oil pack, also known as castor packing, is a traditional method in which a cloth soaked in warm castor oil is applied to a particular spot on the body.
This technique is intended to improve circulation. Castor oil penetrates deep into the skin. This external treatment can be applied over the liver, or other organs, and is used mainly to improve blood circulation and to stimulate the cleansing action.
There is an enormous amount of information to be found about the possible benefits of a castor pack. The following benefits are mentioned, for instance:

Improving digestion, such as reducing a bloated stomach
