Description
What is Sodium Percarbonate?
Sodium percarbonate is created by crystallizing hydrogen peroxide with sodium carbonate. This forms a stable powder known as a natural "active oxygen" source. It is widely used as a chlorine-free alternative to bleach in eco-detergents and DIY cleaning recipes.
The powder works particularly effectively against organic stains like coffee, wine, tomato and grass. It visibly brightens dull whites and helps remove musty odors without synthetic fragrances or chlorine. This makes it a beloved choice in households that want to clean consciously and fragrance-free.
What are the benefits of Sodium Percarbonate?
Powerful stain removal
Active oxygen breaks down organic stains and helps restore the brightness of white textiles, even with stubborn buildup.
Fresh results without fragrance
The oxidative action neutralizes odor sources and supports a fresh feeling, ideal for those seeking scent-free cleaning.
Chlorine-free and environmentally friendly
After dissolving, only soda, water and oxygen remain. No optical brighteners or chlorine, making cleaning gentler for people and the environment.
Supports household hygiene
Hydrogen peroxide released during use helps thoroughly clean surfaces and textiles and promotes a hygienic living environment.
Works even at low temperatures
Effective from 30–40°C and powerful at 60°C. This saves energy and helps keep clothes beautiful longer.
Versatile in DIY formulas
Suitable as an active oxygen source in washing powders, stain salt, soaking baths and bathroom or kitchen cleaners.
Stable and user-friendly
Highly soluble, with a reliable active oxygen content that provides consistency to homemade cleaning recipes.
How do you use Sodium Percarbonate?
- Washing machine: 15–30 g per wash cycle as a booster with your (eco)detergent.
- Stubborn stains: 30–60 g in the detergent compartment.
- Pre-wash/soaking bath: 10–30 g per liter of warm water (40–60°C), let work for 30–120 min.
- All-purpose cleaner: 20–50 g per liter of warm water for grout, cutting boards, trash cans and sanitary facilities.
- DIY formulas: 2–5% in liquid cleaning solutions; 5–10% in dry powders.
Note: do not use on wool, silk or leather. Test colorfastness. Do not mix with acids, chlorine or ammonia. Wear gloves and avoid eye contact.
What makes Sodium Percarbonate so special?
Sodium percarbonate cleans powerfully without the harsh smell and impact of chlorine. It helps keep whites fresh, works effectively at mild temperatures and leaves no disturbing residues. The eco-friendly breakdown to soda, water and oxygen fits perfectly with a conscious, minimalist cleaning routine and makes this powder an indispensable building block for natural household formulas.
