Description
What is Japanese Camellia Oil?
Japanese Camellia Oil, also called Tsubaki Oil or Tea Seed Oil, is extracted from the seeds of the Camellia plant, such as Camellia Japonica. After pressing, the oil is carefully refined into a clear, stable oil that keeps well for a long time and is extra mild for the skin.
In Japan, this oil has been cherished for centuries. Geishas used Tsubaki Oil to keep their hair shiny and their skin radiant, and to this day it remains a cornerstone of Japanese beauty rituals. The name "Tsubaki" means camellia flower in Japanese, a symbol of grace and quiet elegance.
The texture is light and never feels greasy. The scent is so mild that you barely notice it, making it a perfect neutral base that fits everywhere.
Due to the high content of oleic acid (omega 9), the oil keeps the skin supple and soft. Vitamin E can help support the skin against dehydration. For hair, the oil provides beautiful shine and smoother lengths. Ideal as a base for a face oil, hair serum, massage oil or as a carrier oil for essential oils.
What are the benefits of Japanese Camellia Oil?
Hydrates without greasy feeling
The high oleic acid content helps retain moisture. The skin feels supple without becoming shiny or feeling heavy.
Great for sensitive skin
Due to refining, the oil contains little scent and impurities. This feels calmer on reactive skin.
Absorbs wonderfully fast
The light structure ensures the oil is quickly absorbed. Works beautifully under makeup without sliding.
Can support the skin against dehydration
Vitamin E and natural fatty substances can help the skin maintain a comfortable, long-lasting feeling.
Makes hair smooth and shiny
The oil creates a fine veil around the hair. This makes the hair softer, easier to comb and less frizzy.
Great during pregnancy
The oil keeps the skin supple when under tension, and can reduce a tight feeling. Often used during pregnancy. Consult your healthcare provider if in doubt.
Perfect DIY base
Stable and virtually odorless, so it mixes effortlessly with other oils and ingredients in creams, serums and balms.
How do you use Japanese Camellia Oil?
Face: Apply a small amount (approx. 0.5–1 ml) to slightly damp skin, or mix 1–2% through a cream, morning or evening.
Body: After showering, use a small amount on the skin and massage in until the oil is absorbed.
Hair: Work a small amount through the ends of dry or towel-dried hair. As a mask: apply generously, leave for 20 minutes and then wash out.
Massage: Use pure or mixed with other oils for a smooth, comfortable massage.
What makes Japanese Camellia Oil so special?
In Japan, Tsubaki Oil has been cherished for centuries for hair and skin care. The oil is known for the feather-light feeling and the remarkably high oleic acid content. This makes skin and hair smooth and soft, without ever feeling heavy or greasy. A little goes a long way.
