What is Glycolic Acid?

Glycolic acid falls under the Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), or fruit acids. Fruit acids are natural, organic acids found in foods such as milk, fruit or, in the case of Glycolic acid, sugar cane. Glycolic acid is water-soluble and consists of small molecules. This allows it to penetrate deeper into the skin, but can also irritate more quickly. Glycolic acid is therefore not recommended for sensitive skin. For dry, mature skin it is very suitable. It helps the skin retain moisture and reduce superficial wrinkles and pigmentation spots. pH value

AHA ingredients work best in a product with a pH value of 3.8-4.4. A pH value that is too high neutralizes Glycolic acid and thus loses its effectiveness. At a pH value of 4.5-5, Glycolic acid loses its exfoliating effect, but still works as a moisturizer.
