Description
What is Denatured Alcohol (99%)?
Denatured Alcohol (99%) is made from natural sugars sourced from corn or sugarcane, which are fermented and distilled into a pure, clear alcohol. A small additive ensures it is unsuitable for consumption, but its effectiveness as a cosmetic alcohol remains fully intact. The result is a fast-drying, versatile base that works cleanly and leaves no residue.
Denatured Alcohol (99%) is a clear, colorless liquid with a fresh alcohol scent that quickly evaporates from formulas. Because it is made from renewable resources, it fits well with a natural and conscious approach.
It easily dissolves fragrances and plant extracts, works purifying on the skin, and helps regulate sebum production. It also naturally supports the hygiene of sprays and gels.
In perfumes and sprays, it provides clear atomization and a light, fresh sensation. Ideal for DIY perfumes, toners, and room sprays.
What are the benefits of Denatured Alcohol (99%)?
Dissolves everything you need
Fragrances, plant extracts, and resins dissolve easily in it. This gives you clear, stable perfumes and sprays without cloudiness.
Dries quickly and leaves nothing behind
The alcohol evaporates quickly and completely. No sticky feeling, no residue, only a fresh, light sensation on the skin.
Purifies the skin
It helps regulate excess sebum and gives the skin a clearer appearance. Especially nice for oily or combination skin.
Keeps formulas hygienic
Through the natural action of ethanol, sprays and gels stay fresh longer without needing extra preservatives.
Gives perfume more depth
Light fragrances such as citrus show better. The alcohol carries the scent clearly, so you get a longer-lasting dry down.
Made from natural raw materials
Sourced from corn or sugarcane, renewable sources that fit with a conscious, natural approach to formulating.
Keeps formulas clear
In alcohol-rich blends, it helps maintain a stable, clear texture, even over time.
How do you use Denatured Alcohol (99%)?
Facial toner: Mix 10–30% in the water phase with a hydrosol and a humectant such as glycerin. Add in the cool phase and stir gently to limit volatility. Limit use for dry or sensitive skin.
Perfume and room spray: Use 70–90% as a carrier, add fragrance oil or IFRA-compliant perfume concentrate and let macerate. For essential oils in skincare, maximum 1% of the total formula applies; never apply undiluted.
Hand gel: Formulate 60–70% for effective cleansing. Combine with a gel former and 0.5–1% glycerin or aloe for skin comfort. Add in the cool phase and seal immediately.
Botanical extracts (external use): Use 70–100% as a solvent for plant macerations intended for cosmetic use. Filter and dilute if desired with water or glycerin. Add extracts in the cool phase to the final formula. Note: denatured alcohol is not suitable for tinctures or extracts intended for oral ingestion.
General tips: Work in a well-ventilated space, away from flames and sparks. Never use undiluted on skin. Store below 25°C in original, tightly sealed packaging. Wear gloves and eye protection for larger batches.
What makes Denatured Alcohol (99%) so special?
This bio-ethanol is completely miscible with water, evaporates without residue, and makes formulas crystal clear. This means perfumes, mists, and extracts not only feel natural, they also look professional.
