What is Castor Oil?

Castor oil is also known as miracle oil, and that's because it has many extraordinary applications. This castor oil is 100% plant-based and organic and is made with great care from seeds of the green fruits of the castor bean plant: the Ricinus Communis. The tree is cultivated in India, East Africa and the southeastern region of the Mediterranean.

What makes castor oil so special is that it consists of approximately 85 to 90% ricinoleic acid. This is a unique fatty acid that is found in virtually no other plant-based oil. It gives the oil its thick, viscous texture and its reputation for richly nourishing and caring for skin, hair, eyelashes and eyebrows.

How to Use Castor Oil for Your Hair?

Castor oil is the ultimate oil for giving your hair the best care. Castor oil nourishes damaged and dull hair (caused by, for example, dyeing, blow-drying and styling) and the scalp, leaving you with beautiful and shiny hair again.

Apply a little oil to your hands and distribute it through slightly damp hair and onto the scalp. Let the oil work for a few hours and then wash your hair with your usual shampoo. Castor oil is a heavy and thick oil and can sometimes be difficult to wash out of your hair. That's why it's recommended to dilute the oil with a lighter oil such as sweet almond oil or coconut oil. You can apply the oil to your hair several times per week.

How to Use Castor Oil for Eyelashes and Eyebrows?

Castor oil is a popular natural remedy for eyelashes and eyebrows, but use it wisely. Pure castor oil is too thick and viscous for fine hairs, and tends to sit as a film on the outside. Always dilute the oil with a lighter oil such as jojoba oil or argan oil, in a ratio of approximately 1 to 3. This way the hairs are nourished, shiny and fuller in appearance, without becoming too heavy.

For convenience, apply the mixture to an old mascara brush or cotton swab, so you can distribute the oil evenly over the eyelashes and eyebrows. You can use the oil daily. Be careful not to get the oil in your eyes.

How to Use Castor Oil for Your Skin?

Castor oil has a special role in skincare. Because of its thick structure, it stays on the skin for a long time and forms a protective layer that prevents moisture loss. But what really makes castor oil special is that it works beautifully for oily or combination skin. This sounds contradictory, but ricinoleic acid has a gentle cleansing effect and helps dissolve excess sebum without drying out the skin.

This is why castor oil is an ideal ingredient in an oil cleanser. According to the oil cleansing principle, oil dissolves sebum, not water. A mixture of approximately 20 to 30% castor oil with 70 to 80% lighter oil such as jojoba oil or sweet almond oil thoroughly cleanses the skin without disrupting the skin's natural barrier. Massage the mixture onto dry skin, place a warm washcloth over it and wipe off.

How to Use Castor Oil for Your Beard?

Castor oil nourishes the beard like nothing else. Due to its rich texture, even the thinner areas of your beard are intensively nourished, for a well-groomed and even appearance. Castor oil is also great for the mustache.

Apply the oil to your hands and massage into your beard and mustache. Give extra attention to the areas that could use more oil. You can use the oil daily, but applying it two to four times per week also works well for the desired effect.

Tips for Using Castor Oil

• Castor oil is a notably thick and viscous oil. That's part of its nature and comes from its unique composition.
• For use on hair, eyelashes and eyebrows or as a facial cleanser, it's best to mix the oil with a lighter oil such as jojoba oil, argan oil or sweet almond oil. Pure castor oil is often too heavy for those applications.
• The 100 ml bottle has a wide neck and therefore cannot be combined with a dropper.
