Troubled, dry or sensitive skin calls for gentle, loving care. This soothing salve is specially developed to soften and protect the skin. It lays a nourishing, breathable layer on the skin that helps strengthen the skin barrier and prevent moisture loss. With the powerful, soothing properties of black cumin seed oil and the rich nourishment of kokum butter, making this salve is a small, caring moment to give your skin the rest it deserves.

Lay out all your tools and sanitise everything well. A clean workspace is extra important for a product that goes onto vulnerable, sensitive skin.

Weigh out all the ingredients carefully and set them out per phase in separate beakers. The amounts are small, so a precision scale that is accurate to 0.01 gram is really nice here.

Put a pan of water on for your bain-marie with a thick bottom. Let the water boil well, as rice bran wax has a high melting point of around 80 degrees and needs a strong heat source to melt fully.

Combine Phase A, the rice bran wax, kokum butter and black cumin seed oil, in your heat-resistant measuring beaker and place it in the boiling water bath.

Heat the mixture calmly and patiently to about 85 degrees. Stir gently every now and then. You will see the wax slowly dissolve in the warm oil; wait until the whole is fully clear and transparent, with no visible solid pieces of wax left. This can easily take 10 to 15 minutes, so do not get impatient.

Carefully remove the measuring beaker from the water bath and place it on a heat-resistant surface. Keep stirring gently as the mixture cools down.

As soon as the mixture has cooled to about 60 degrees, still nicely liquid but no longer hot, add Phase B, the vitamin E oil. Stir calmly once more until everything is nicely distributed. Do not wait too long with this step, because rice bran wax starts to solidify again at around 70 degrees.

Pour the still-liquid salve carefully into your clean tin straight away. Do this in one go so that the salve sets evenly without setting layers.

Let the tin cool down undisturbed at room temperature until the salve has set completely; this takes about an hour. Only then put the lid on. Label your creation and give it a day's rest before you start using it.
