Argan & Kokum Cream Conditioner

Always wanted to make your own conditioner? With this recipe you can get started! This liquid conditioner is based on argan oil and kokum butter and nourishes the hair deep down to the root. Argan oil helps with frizz and prevents flyaways, and kokum butter adds an extra layer of oil to the hair shaft so it shines beautifully again without weighing it down. Add your favourite essential oil and enjoy a wonderful natural conditioner.

Make sure all your tools and equipment are ready and ensure that everything is sterilised.

Bring a layer of water to the boil in a heavy-bottomed pan or use a hotplate.

Weigh out all your ingredients. Combine each phase in a separate heat-resistant measuring cup.

Note down the weight of Phase B including the measuring cup, so that we can top up the evaporated water after heating.

Heat Phase A and B until everything has completely melted. You can stir while heating so that it melts evenly.

Check the temperature. Once Phase B reaches 70 degrees, weigh it and top up the lost water content until you reach the desired weight as noted earlier. You may add a little more water so that less is lost during evaporation.

Put it back in the pan or on the hotplate and wait until it is 70 degrees again.

Pour Phase A into Phase B and mix with a stick blender. Pulse for 5-10 seconds or until it turns white, which is an indication that the mixture has emulsified.

Turn off the heat and remove the measuring cup from the pan. Stir until it cools down.

When the mixture has cooled back down to 40 degrees, add the ingredients from Phase C, D and E.

Mix gently until the mixture has reached room temperature. (approx. 20 degrees)

Measure the pH. Use an acid such as Lactic acid solution to lower the pH or a base such as Sodium bicarbonate solution to raise it until you reach the desired pH of 4.5 to 5.

Put it in a jar or a bottle with a pump and label your creation.
