What is Tea Tree Hydrosol?
Tea Tree Hydrosol is the aromatic water that remains after steam distillation of Tea Tree Essential Oil. During this process, a small portion of the water-soluble aromatic molecules from the plant carries over into the distillation water. This gives the hydrosol its light, herbal, fresh scent and corresponding properties.
The Tea Tree plant (Melaleuca alternifolia) grows naturally in Australia and has been used for thousands of years by the Aboriginals, the indigenous people of the land. Our Tea Tree Hydrosol is organically certified by Ecocert COSMOS, obtained from fresh leaves through steam distillation.
A hydrosol works much more gently than the concentrated Essential Oil. Therefore, you can use the hydrosol directly on the skin, while the Essential Oil must always be diluted in a Carrier Oil.
How is Tea Tree Hydrosol made?
The fresh leaves of the Tea Tree plant are processed through steam distillation. The steam carries the volatile aromatic compounds and condenses into a liquid. The Essential Oil floats on top, while the aromatic water remains underneath, which is the hydrosol.
Our hydrosol is preserved with Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate (Leucidal), a natural fermentation ingredient derived from fermented radish roots. This is an Ecocert-approved natural preservative that extends the shelf life of the hydrosol without synthetic additives.

Spray on the scalp for a fresh feeling and healthy scalp.
What is the difference with Tea Tree Essential Oil?
Tea Tree Essential Oil and Tea Tree Hydrosol both come from the same plant and the same distillation process, but are fundamentally different in concentration and application.
The Essential Oil is a highly concentrated oil that must always be diluted in a Carrier Oil for skin contact (maximum 1 percent). The hydrosol, on the other hand, is the water-soluble part, much gentler and directly usable on the skin without dilution.
For strong action and in DIY recipes where you want a small dosage: choose the Essential Oil. For daily use as a toner, mist or mild care: choose the hydrosol.
Tips when using Tea Tree Hydrosol
- Store the hydrosol in the refrigerator after opening. This extends freshness and gives an extra cooling feeling during use.
- Always close the bottle properly after use.
- The hydrosol has a natural, light scent that can vary per harvest. This is a sign of a natural product.
- Test first on a small piece of skin before using the hydrosol for the first time, especially with sensitive skin.
Points of attention
Tea Tree Hydrosol is intended for external use. Not for consumption. Avoid contact with eyes. Keep out of reach of children. When in doubt or with sensitive skin, always test first on a small spot and wait 24 hours before using it on larger surfaces.
