What is Preservative DS 1388 Eco (Dermosoft)?

If you want to make a finished product that consists 100% of aqueous ingredients, we recommend using this preservative.

Preservative Eco 1388 is also known as Dermosoft and protects your homemade cosmetics against molds and bacteria. This is sufficient for formulas that contain 100% water-containing ingredients, i.e., no oils. Water-containing serums with gums also fall under this category.

Preservative Eco 1388 does not protect against yeasts, for this Preservative Eco is a better choice.

Approved preservative

Preservative 1388 Eco is one of the few preservatives that is approved by Ecocert and Cosmos and is therefore used worldwide in natural cosmetics and care products. Preservative Eco is free from palm oil, phenoxyethanol, parabens, formaldehyde and isothiazolone.

100% odorless

Preservative 1388 Eco is 100% odorless and therefore perfect for aqueous formulas without fragrance.

Add to the cooling phase

It is recommended to add Preservative 1388 Eco to the cooling phase of your formulation.

Effective at low acidity

Preservative Eco protects at a pH value of 5 to 5.5, which gives you slightly less freedom with the rest of your ingredients. Make sure you test the pH accurately before adding Preservative 1388 Eco. After you have added it, check the pH again. Check that it is between 5 and 5.5. For formulas used on the skin (except peels) a pH between 5 and 6 is ideal.

Protects against molds and bacteria

This preservative protects against molds and bacteria. This is sufficient for water-containing recipes. This preservative does not protect against yeasts, for this Preservative Eco should be used.

How do you use it?

Use Preservative Eco as a preservative in your homemade cosmetics. Use it for example in: toners, micellar waters, water-containing serums and in your homemade body and face mist.

Dosage: The recommended dosage is 2% to 4% of the total weight of your finished product. Add Preservative 1388 Eco during the cooling phase of your formula.

Preservative 1388 Eco consists of Glycerin, Water, Sodium Levulinate and Sodium Anisate.

How long will my recipe last?

Provided that work is done in a clean environment with disinfected tools and the preservative is added during the cooling phase at the correct pH, then your recipe will last at least 6 months.
