What is Papaya Glycerite?

A glycerite is a glycerin-based tincture (infusion) of a botanical ingredient. By "marinating" the papaya in a mixture of glycerin and water, an extract is made from the papaya. Glycerin is a wonderful extraction medium to draw both fat- and water-soluble substances from plants.

The glycerin in this glycerite is of plant origin and is also called glycerol. Glycerin is a syrupy, colorless, non-toxic, sweet-tasting liquid. Glycerin also occurs in our body. Every time we eat fats, our body produces glycerin by breaking down fats into fatty acids and glycerin.

Retains moisture

A glycerite is a beautiful replacement for an alcohol tincture and is often used in alcohol-free formulas. Additionally, glycerin attracts moisture from its environment and retains it, protecting the skin against moisture loss. An indispensable ingredient for every skin!

Prevents irritation from other ingredients

Another property of glycerin is that it softens the skin and can reduce irritation from other substances. It is therefore often added to shampoos and conditioners to prevent irritation from surface-active substances (surfactants).

Good for oily and dry skin

Papaya Glycerite has a soft, refreshing and sweet scent. It beautifully balances oily skin and works as an exfoliant on the drier areas.

Rich in Vitamin A and C

Papaya is often used in skin products with the goal of strengthening and firming the skin. Because it contains vitamin A, Papaya Glycerite stimulates cell renewal and the skin's healing ability. The vitamin C works as a powerful antioxidant and makes the skin feel smooth and firm again.

How do you use Papaya Glycerite?

Add Papaya Glycerite to the water phase. Often 5 to 10% is sufficient in a body lotion or face cream recipe. If you go above this, the end result may feel too sticky. If you want to use it in a shower gel, shampoo or conditioner, you can safely use more. Toothpastes sometimes even contain 50% glycerin.
