Description
What is Black Seed Oil?
Black seed oil is extracted from the seeds of Nigella sativa, an annual plant from the Mediterranean region and South Asia. The oil has been valued for thousands of years for its caring properties for skin and hair, and its seeds have even been found in the tomb of Tutankhamun. Our black seed oil is organic and cold-pressed, with a deep dark amber color, an intense spicy scent and a slightly peppery taste.
How is Black Seed Oil made?
The seeds of the Nigella sativa plant are harvested and cold-pressed. With cold-pressed oil, no heat above 30 degrees is used during pressing, which preserves the natural active substances, fatty acids and aromas. After that, the oil is filtered and ready for use.
Why is Black Seed Oil so special?
Black seed oil has a unique characteristic that distinguishes it from virtually all other plant oils: it contains thymoquinone, a natural terpenoid that is responsible for most of its research value. Thymoquinone has powerful antioxidant and soothing properties and has been extensively studied in scientific research.
Additionally, the oil consists of approximately 55 to 60% linoleic acid (omega 6) and 20 to 25% oleic acid (omega 9). Together with the bioactive substances, this makes black seed oil a rich, powerful oil for the skin.
Benefits of Black Seed Oil for your skin
Soothes irritated or restless skin
Due to the thymoquinone and essential fatty acids, black seed oil is known for its soothing effect on red, irritated or restless skin.
Helps with impurities
The oil has been used for generations for skin with impurities or imperfections. A few drops on the desired areas can do a lot.
Nourishes dry skin
The high linoleic acid content supports the skin barrier and helps with dry or thirsty skin.
Benefits of Black Seed Oil for your hair
Nourishes dry and frizzy hair
The rich composition makes dry hair softer and gives it shine.
Cares for the scalp
Due to its soothing effect, black seed oil is great for a dry or itchy scalp. Massage a few drops in before washing the hair.
How do you use Black Seed Oil?
For your skin, apply a few drops to cleansed skin. Due to the intense scent and dark color, the oil is best used as a night treatment. For specific areas, massage a small amount into the skin that could use some extra attention. For your scalp, massage a few drops in before washing, let this absorb for 15 to 30 minutes and wash out with your regular shampoo.
Tips when using Black Seed Oil
- Black seed oil has a pronounced spicy, peppery scent. That's just part of this pure, unrefined oil.
- The oil may temporarily leave a light yellow tint on light skin and can stain dark clothes.
- Due to its potency, black seed oil is also nice to mix with a lighter oil like jojoba oil or squalane to make the scent and intensity milder.
- With sensitive skin, always test first on a small patch of skin.
