Description
What are Lavender Buds?
Lavender buds are the dried flowering tops of Lavandula angustifolia. The buds are gently dried after harvest, preserving color, fragrance and active compounds.
The scent is classic lavender: floral, fresh-herbaceous and lightly sweet, with a hint of woody notes. On the skin it feels like calm: less tension, fresher feeling and a moment of zen under the shower or in the bath.
Use the buds for DIY: make a scent sachet, bath salt or an oil macerate as a base for a gentle facial oil or body oil.
What are the benefits of Lavender Buds?
A calm moment
The fragrance contains linalool and linalyl acetate, the same compounds found in lavender oil. A pinch in a bath or steam bath brings calm after a busy day.
Soothes sensitive skin
A lukewarm infusion as a compress or facial steam helps soothe the skin. The mild fragrance and plant compounds make skin feel less tight.
Fresh without tightness
Warm steam with lavender buds loosens pores and removes superficial impurities. The skin feels fresh, not tight.
Fine base for homemade oil
Buds steeped in oil release fragrance and antioxidants into the oil. This way you create a gentle facial or body oil that absorbs pleasantly.
Fragrance in your home
In a linen sachet or potpourri, the buds keep your closet and bedroom fresh. Rubbing them briefly between your fingers reawakens the scent.
Soft in bath and scrub
Mixed into bath salt or a sugar scrub, the buds add color and subtle fragrance, and feel soft on the skin.
How to use Lavender Buds?
Facial steam: 1 tablespoon buds in 250 ml hot water. Steam for 5-10 minutes at arm's length. Great as a fresh start or closer to your day.
Compress or toner infusion: 1 tablespoon in 200 ml hot water, steep for 10-15 minutes and cool. Use as a compress or as a simple toner within 2-3 days, or preserve according to your recipe.
Bath: 1-2 tablespoons in a reusable tea sachet or muslin. Hang in the stream of warm bath water so no loose petals go down the drain.
DIY bath salt or scrub: 1 teaspoon finely chopped buds per 100 g salt or scrub. Mix at the end, dry and store cool.
Oil macerate: 1 part buds to 5-10 parts plant oil. Steep for 2-4 weeks at room temperature, or 1-3 hours in a water bath on low heat (max. 40-50°C), then strain. Use this macerate as 10-100% of the oil phase in your recipe, adding to the fat phase.
Scent sachet: fill a linen sachet and knead it briefly before use to release the fragrance. Place in a drawer, closet or under your pillow.
Tip with essential oil: if you add lavender essential oil, dose a maximum of 1% and never apply undiluted to the skin.
What makes Lavender Buds so special?
The fragrance sits in microscopically small glands on the flower calyx. Just bruising or warming opens these glands and releases a full lavender scent immediately, so even a small amount of buds smells strong and clear.
