Description

What is Cactus Fig Oil?

Cactus fig oil is extracted from the seeds of the cactus fig (Opuntia ficus-indica), also known as prickly pear or Indian fig. This remarkable cactus grows in arid regions of Morocco, Tunisia and Mexico, and can survive extreme drought while still producing juicy, healthy fruit. Our cactus fig oil is cold-pressed and unrefined, with a golden-yellow colour and a distinctive fragrance that is floral, fruity and slightly resinous.

How is Cactus Fig Oil Made?

The cactus fig contains numerous small black seeds, and these seeds are the source of the oil. However, the seeds contain only 5% oil. This means that approximately 1 million seeds, or 30 kilograms of fruit, are needed to make 1 litre of cactus fig oil. The seeds are extracted from the fruit, washed, dried and then cold-pressed. During cold-pressing, no heat above 30 degrees is used, which preserves all natural vitamins and fatty acids.

Due to this labour-intensive process, cactus fig oil is one of the most precious plant-based oils in the world.

Why is Cactus Fig Oil So Special?

Cactus fig oil has the highest vitamin E content of all plant-based oils, with approximately 1000 mg of tocopherols per kilo. This is almost twice as much as argan oil and makes cactus fig oil one of the most potent plant-based antioxidants in cosmetics.

Additionally, the oil consists of 60 to 65% linoleic acid (omega 6) and 20 to 25% oleic acid (omega 9). This high linoleic acid content makes cactus fig oil particularly suitable for restoring the skin barrier and calming dry or irritated skin.

Benefits of Cactus Fig Oil for Your Skin

Great for Mature Skin
Thanks to its exceptionally high vitamin E content, cactus fig oil helps protect skin against free radicals and contributes to supple, elastic skin. Highly recommended for mature skin.

Supports the Skin Barrier
The high linoleic acid content supports the natural skin barrier and helps with dry, thirsty or sensitive skin.

Light Texture, Quick Absorption
Despite its rich composition, cactus fig oil feels surprisingly light and absorbs quickly, without leaving a greasy film. This also makes it suitable for combination skin.

Great as an Eye Serum
Due to its light texture and high antioxidant content, cactus fig oil is a popular choice as an eye serum. With regular use, the skin around the eyes can look smoother and fresher.

How to Use Cactus Fig Oil?

For your face, take a few drops between your hands, warm the oil up slightly and distribute it gently over your face and neck. Cactus fig oil is suitable for daily use, both morning and evening. For the eye contour, apply a very small amount with your ring finger, using gentle dabbing motions. Due to the high price, a few drops at a time is more than sufficient.

Tips for Using Cactus Fig Oil

  • Cactus fig oil has a distinctive, floral-resinous fragrance. This is simply part of this pure, unrefined oil.
  • Due to its high vitamin E content, cactus fig oil has a relatively long shelf life, despite its high content of unsaturated fatty acids. Store the bottle in a cool, dark place.
  • A few drops are often enough. A 30 ml bottle lasts a long time with daily use.
  • Cactus fig oil blends excellently with other oils such as squalane or jojoba oil to make it even lighter.
