Alum (aluminum potassium sulfate dodecahydrate) is an aluminum compound consisting of aluminum sulfate and potassium sulfate. Alum is a natural and mild substitute for aluminum as an ingredient in, for example, deodorant.

Alum lowers the acidity of the soil, which affects the color of certain flowers. A red hydrangea can turn blue when acidity is low. Sprinkle about 50 to 150 grams under the hydrangea at the end of August and discover how the color has changed the following year!
