Description

What is African Black Soap (palm oil-free)?

African Black Soap (palm oil-free) is a traditional, handmade soap based on shea butter. This variant is completely palm oil-free and is known for its mild, nourishing properties.

The soap is made from the residual streams of shea butter production. Extra shea butter and potash are added to this ash mixture. Potash is a natural mixture of salts, mainly potassium carbonate, derived from burnt plant materials.

During the production process, this mixture is heated and stirred, causing a large portion of the shea butter to saponify. Some remains unsaponified and is precisely what gives the soap its nourishing character.

The result is a creamy, mild soap that cleanses the skin without drying it out.

How is African Black Soap (palm oil-free) made?

African Black Soap (palm oil-free) is produced in a traditional, artisanal manner.

Plant materials are burned to ash, from which potash is derived. This potash forms the natural basis for the saponification process. Shea butter is added to this base. During heating and stirring, saponification takes place, whereby some of the fats are converted into soap and some remain unsaponified. It is precisely this combination that ensures gentle cleansing and a nourishing skin feel.

Benefits of African Black Soap (palm oil-free)

  • Cleanses the skin gently without drying it out
  • Palm oil-free and therefore richer and creamier than many other variants

Gentle on the skin
Unlike many other soaps, this variant is made with potash as a natural alkaline component. This makes the soap milder to use and keeps the skin barrier better intact. Dirt and excess sebum are removed, while the skin does not feel immediately tight.

The unsaponified fraction of shea butter ensures that the skin is nourished and hydrated during cleansing.

Supports the skin against aging
The presence of natural ingredients from shea butter, such as vitamins A and E, contributes to maintaining supple skin. These substances support skin structure and help the skin look nourished and healthy.

Suitable for dry or impure skin
Due to its mild yet effective cleansing, this soap is suitable for different skin types. The skin is cleansed without aggressive degreasing, which helps keep the skin balanced.

How do you use African Black Soap (palm oil-free)?

Break off a small piece of soap and rub it between your hands with water until it foams. Apply the foam to damp skin. Rinse with lukewarm water.

Start with 1-2 times per week and gradually build up usage depending on your skin type.

Tips for using African Black Soap (palm oil-free)

African Black Soap may feel quite intense at first. Therefore, gradually build up usage.

  • Always use foam, not the bar directly on the skin
  • Store the soap in a dry place
  • After use, apply a nourishing oil or butter, such as shea butter or jojoba oil

What is so special about African Black Soap (palm oil-free)?

Many African Black Soaps contain palm oil. In this variant, shea butter has been deliberately chosen as the base. Shea butter saponifies less completely than palm oil, so more unsaponifiable ingredients remain. This results in a softer, creamier soap that is less likely to dry out the skin.

Our African Black Soap is:

  • completely palm oil-free
  • free from synthetic additives

Side effects of African Black Soap (palm oil-free)

African Black Soap is a natural, but active cleanser. On sensitive skin, the soap may cause slight irritation at first.

  • Always test first on a small area of skin
  • Wait 24 hours to check for reactions
  • Gradually build up usage
