What is Argan Oil?

Argan oil is extracted from the nuts of the argan tree (Argania spinosa), a tree that only grows in a small area in southwest Morocco. The tree is of great economic and cultural importance there and is even listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Our argan oil is organic, cold-pressed and unrefined, with a golden yellow color and a typical, light nutty aroma.

How is Argan Oil Made?

The fruits of the argan tree are harvested as soon as they fall from the tree. The soft skin is removed and each fruit contains three pits full of oil. These pits are cracked and cold-pressed. Cold-pressed oil uses no heat above 30 degrees during pressing, which preserves all natural vitamins, fatty acids and antioxidants.

Women's cooperatives have been established in various places in Morocco to produce argan oil. These cooperatives give women fair wages and self-determination: they decide for themselves when to harvest the nuts, how hard to work and when to offer the nuts. Our organic argan oil comes from this type of cooperative.

Why is Argan Oil so Special?

Argan oil has a rich and balanced fatty acid composition. The oil consists of approximately 43 to 49% oleic acid (omega 9) and 29 to 36% linoleic acid (omega 6). Additionally, argan oil is one of the richest plant-based sources of vitamin E (tocopherols) and naturally contains phytosterols such as schoteline, a unique substance found in virtually no other plant oil and known for its softening properties.

Because of this combination, argan oil has been valued for centuries in Morocco as a true multi-tasker for skin, hair and nails.

The high content of oleic acid and linoleic acid makes argan oil a rich, nourishing oil. Especially good for dry or thirsty skin.

Argan oil is known for its action on dry, dull and frizzy hair. The oil makes hair softer and gives a natural shine without feeling heavy.

A few drops on the lengths and ends works as a light leave-in. For more intensive care, massage a larger amount into dry hair as a hair mask.

Also cares for the scalp
The nourishing effect is great for a dry scalp.

How to Use Argan Oil?

For your skin, massage a few drops into clean, lightly damp skin. Daily use is fine. For your hair, use argan oil as a leave-in on the lengths and ends, or as a hair mask that you let absorb for 15 to 20 minutes before rinsing it out. For feet and nails, massage a few drops in, with extra attention to dry patches and cuticles. Finally, a splash of argan oil in your bath water gives a wonderful pampering bath.

Tips When Using Argan Oil

• Our unrefined argan oil naturally has a light, nutty aroma that can sometimes also have a hint of goat. That might sound odd, but it's actually a sign of pure, authentic argan oil. The aroma is created by the traditional production process and disappears after a few minutes on the skin.
• Due to the high vitamin E content, argan oil is fairly long-lasting for an unsaturated plant oil. Store the bottle in a cool, dark place.
• Argan oil mixes excellently with other oils and is a great ingredient in DIY facial serums, hair masks and body oils.
