Description
What is Black Cumin Seed Oil?
Black cumin seed oil is extracted from the seeds of Nigella sativa, an annual plant native to the Mediterranean and South Asia. The oil has been valued for thousands of years for its nourishing properties for skin and hair, and its seeds have even been found in the tomb of Tutankhamun. Our black cumin seed oil is organic and cold-pressed, with a deep dark amber color, an intense spicy aroma and a slightly peppery taste.
How is Black Cumin Seed Oil made?
The seeds of the Nigella sativa plant are harvested and cold-pressed. Cold-pressed oil is made without using heat above 30 degrees during pressing, which preserves the natural active compounds, fatty acids and aromas. The oil is then filtered and ready for use.
Why is Black Cumin Seed Oil so special?
Black cumin seed oil has a unique characteristic that sets it apart from virtually all other plant oils: it contains thymoquinone, a natural terpenoid that is responsible for much of its research value. Thymoquinone has antioxidant and calming properties.
Additionally, the oil consists of approximately 55 to 60% linoleic acid (omega 6) and 20 to 25% oleic acid (omega 9). Together with the bioactive compounds, this makes black cumin seed oil a rich, powerful oil for the skin.
Benefits of Black Cumin Seed Oil for your skin

Thanks to its thymoquinone and essential fatty acids, black cumin seed oil is known for its calming effect on red, irritated or reactive skin.
For blemish-prone skin
The oil has been used for generations in the care of skin with blemishes or unevenness. A few drops on the desired areas can make a difference.
Nourishes dry skin
The high linoleic acid content supports the skin barrier and helps with dry or thirsty skin.
Benefits of Black Cumin Seed Oil for your hair
Nourishes dry and frizzy hair
The rich composition makes dry hair softer and gives it shine.
Cares for the scalp
Due to its calming effect, black cumin seed oil is wonderful for a dry scalp. Massage a few drops in before washing your hair.
How to use Black Cumin Seed Oil?
For your skin, apply a few drops to cleansed skin. Due to the intense aroma and dark color, the oil is best used as a night care treatment. For specific areas, massage a small amount into the skin that needs extra attention. For your scalp, massage a few drops in before washing, let it soak for 15 to 30 minutes and wash out with your regular shampoo.
Tips for using Black Cumin Seed Oil
- Black cumin seed oil has a pronounced spicy, peppery aroma. This is normal for this pure, unrefined oil.
- The oil may temporarily leave a light yellow tint on light skin and can stain dark clothes.
- Due to its strength, black cumin seed oil is also nice to mix with a lighter oil such as jojoba oil or squalane to soften the aroma and intensity.
- For sensitive skin, always test first on a small area of skin.
