Description
What is Vegetal / Montanov 68?
Vegetal/Montanov 68 is a plant-based emulsifier that ensures your homemade face products become beautiful blends. An emulsifier helps water-based ingredients mix with oil-based ingredients, so you get a beautiful smooth cream or lotion that is excellently absorbed by the skin.
How is Vegetal / Montanov 68 made?
Vegetal/ Montanov 68 consists of a combination between glucose (Cetearyl Glucoside) and fatty alcohol (Cetearyl Alcohol). The fatty alcohols in this Vegetal are derived from palm oil, coconut oil and rapeseed oil. Through a process called "glycosylation" the sugar chains of the glucose are connected to the fatty alcohols. After that it is filtered and pressed into pellets.
Not the same as alcohol.
Even though the term fatty alcohol contains "alcohol", they are absolutely not comparable to each other. Fatty alcohol doesn't resemble in any way the alcohol you know as an irritating drying substance. Fatty alcohols are greasy, waxy substances that occur in plants. They protect the plant against dehydration and external influences. For the skin they are also soothing, protective and hydrating.
Benefits
Hydrates protects and soothes the skin
Vegetal/ Montanov 68 is a non-ionic emulsifier with a lamellar structure that resembles the lamellar structure of our own skin.
What is a lamellar structure? Simply put, this means that our skin has devised a clever system to let water and oil exist side by side. The skin needs fat to retain moisture.
The skin's balance gets disrupted when moisture loss occurs due to a lack of skin fat. To restore this balance you need a cream that contains water as well as oil. Vegetal/ Montanov 68 ensures that oil droplets are distributed over the skin via a lamellar structure so that the skin's moisture and fat content is restored.

How do you use Vegetal/Montanov 68?
You add Vegetal/Montanov 68 to the oil phase of your formula. Depending on the thickness of the cream or lotion you want to make you add 3% to 8% Vegetal to your recipe. If you are a beginner we recommend you start with a ratio of 25% oil, 6% Vegetal/Montanov and the rest water.
Vegetal/Montanov 68 works well together with oils, but also with butters and waxes. You add the emulsifier to your oil mixture and it must be heated to 70-75 degrees before it is mixed with the water phase, which must also be at 70-75 degrees.
To properly incorporate Vegetal/ Montanov 68 in your products it is smart to also add a stabilizer to your water phase, such as 0.2% xanthan gum.
