What is Elderberry Antioxidant?
Elderberry Antioxidant is a powerful, natural extract that helps protect oils against oxidation and supports and soothes the skin. It is 100% natural, vegan and has a gentle, subtly fruity scent that doesn't overpower other fragrances. It is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
This extract is made from the berries of the European elder (Sambucus nigra).
It is naturally full of antioxidants such as anthocyanins and quercetin - nutrients known for their powerful protective and skin-soothing properties.
Additionally, it shows slight inhibition in tests, especially against yeasts and fungi. This makes it a nice, natural addition for oil products and emulsions. Important: this does not replace a complete preservative in products that contain water.

At higher dosages (1–5%) it inhibits especially yeasts and fungi.
Not sufficient as sole preservation in water-containing products. -

The gentle berry scent blends well with virtually all other ingredients.
Stable up to approximately 75 °C. -
• Broadly applicable
Perfect for oil serums, balms, lip care, body butters, anhydrous scrubs and for creams and serums (O/W and W/O).
How do you use Elderberry Antioxidant?
- Dosage: 1.0–5.0% (2% is a nice starting dosage)
- Add to the oil phase: under 75 °C
- pH range: works well between pH 3 and 8
- Suitable for: oil products, anhydrous formulas and emulsions
- With cleansers/surfactants: use a solubilizer if needed
