Description
What is Matcha Powder?
Matcha is made from young tea leaves that are grown under shade, briefly steamed and then slowly ground into superfine powder on granite mills. This traditional method preserves the high content of antioxidants and amino acids that matcha is so famous for. In skincare, matcha is in the spotlight due to the combination of soothing, purifying and a fresh glow. The scent is mild, fresh-earthy and lightly sweet, with a subtle umami tone that immediately reminds of pure green tea.
Thanks to the superfine texture, matcha easily blends into masks, powder cleansers, lotions and emulsions. It is rich in polyphenols like EGCG, amino acids like L-theanine, green pigments (chlorophyll) and natural tannins. This combination supports the skin on multiple levels: matcha helps neutralize free radicals, balances sebum, soothes redness and contributes to a clear radiance. Natural tannins work lightly astringent and optically refine the pores.
What are the benefits of Matcha Powder?
Antioxidant boost for a fresh radiance
Catechins like EGCG help reduce oxidative stress and support the natural resilience of the skin. This contributes to a fresher, energetic complexion.
Soothing and calming
Polyphenols and L-theanine help soothe redness and support a comfortable skin feeling, especially for skin that quickly feels restless.
Purifying and balancing
Chlorophyll and natural tannins help temper excess sebum and support a clear, matte radiance without drying out.
Brightening and evening
Matcha contains natural antioxidants and vitamin C traces that help the skin tone appear fresher and more even.
Pore-refining effect
The light astringent action supports a less visible pore structure and gives a smoother skin texture.
Refreshing effect around the eyes (external use)
The natural caffeine helps optically soften signs of fatigue and promotes a fresher look.
Gentle glow boost
The ultrafine particles give a subtle polish in a mask, making the skin appear smooth, soft and radiant after rinsing.
How do you use Matcha Powder?
Masks: 1 tsp matcha + 1–2 tsp hydrolate, aloe gel or yogurt; let work for 10–15 minutes and rinse off.
Serums/emulsions: 1–3%; first pre-dilute in glycerin or a little water.
Powder cleansers: 0.5–2% mix with clay, oatmeal or rice powder.
General dosage: 1–5% in DIY formulas.
Note: matcha is not completely water-soluble and works as a fine dispersion. Patch test for sensitive skin. May temporarily color textiles.
What makes Matcha Powder so special?
Thanks to the traditional shade cultivation, matcha contains remarkably high amounts of chlorophyll and amino acids, which creates the iconic bright green color and a soothing skin feeling. The slow grinding on granite mills gives a superfine, luxurious texture that processes effortlessly and gives DIY formulas a natural green glow. Perfect for any skincare project that should purify, brighten and create a gentle glow.
