What is a Loofah Sponge?

This sponge is made from the loofah plant, also called sponge cucumber. The sponge is a sustainable, biodegradable alternative to washcloths and synthetic sponges. You use the Loofah to scrub and massage your body.

When the fruit of the sponge cucumber is ripe, it is harvested and peeled and the seeds are removed. The fruit is then dried and creates a beautiful, fibrous network that is ideal for scrubbing. When you immerse the sponge in water, it swells up and becomes nice and soft.

How do you use it?

After use, rinse and wring out the sponge thoroughly, then let it dry. You can also wash it in the washing machine from time to time.

As with other sponges, it's a good idea to sterilize the Loofah once a week to prevent bacteria from building up in all the small corners and holes of the sponge. To sterilize the sponge, boil it for a few minutes in a pan with hot water
