Description

What is Citric Acid Anhydrate?

Citric Acid Anhydrate is also known as 'anhydrous Citric Acid'. This anhydrous Citric Acid has a purity of more than 99% and is often used in food products.

Citric Acid is an organic acid that occurs naturally in citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, mandarins and limes. In lemons and limes, Citric Acid makes up about 8% of the whole. But this acid is also found in other foods such as berries and some vegetables like lettuce and tomato.

How do you use Citric Acid Anhydrate?

As a cleaning agent

Citric Acid works excellently for cleaning all sorts of things around the house. It also works effectively at removing soap residue, hard water stains, limescale buildup, lime and rust.

As a preservative

Citric Acid is a natural antioxidant that is often found in soaps, conditioners, shampoos and skin and hair care products. This is often combined with Potassium Sorbate. Together they form a powerful preservative.

As a pH regulator

Citric Acid is widely used to adjust the pH (acidity level) of a formulation. The pH scale runs from 0 to 14. A pH lower than 7 is acidic, a pH of 7 is neutral and a pH higher than 7 is basic/alkaline. By adjusting the acidity level you bring a product to the desired pH.

What is the difference between Citric Acid Monohydrate and Anhydrate?

Citric Acid Monohydrate contains water while Citric Acid Anhydrate consists of less than 0.5% water.

Citric Acid Anhydrate is also known as 'anhydrous Citric Acid'. This anhydrous Citric Acid has a purity of more than 99%.

Citric Acid Monohydrate has a slightly coarser structure and looks more like crystal sugar. This form of Citric Acid contains a tiny bit of water and has a purity of >98%.

Citric Acid Anhydrate is therefore slightly purer than Citric Acid Monohydrate.
