Vitamin E is one of the most important vitamins for healthy skin. Unfortunately, we do not produce it ourselves but have to obtain it through our diet. Why is Vitamin E so important? In this blog you will read about everything Vitamin E does for the skin.
Vitamin E is, just like vitamin C, an antioxidant. It occurs naturally in the oils and fats of plants and animals. We cannot produce this vitamin ourselves, but we can store it in our body. Vitamin E is the most common vitamin in the skin and is found particularly in the upper layer of the skin. The vitamin reaches the sebum via our body and then enters the upper layer of the skin via the sebum. There are different forms of vitamin E:
Alpha-tocopherol, Beta-tocopherol, Gamma-tocopherol and Delta-tocopherol
Alpha-tocotrienol, Beta-tocotrienol, Gamma-tocotrienol, Delta-tocotrienol
The most active form of vitamin E is alpha-tocopherol.
What exactly are antioxidants & free radicals?
Antioxidants are substances that are able to neutralise free oxygen radicals. Free radicals are by-products in our body and very unstable molecules. Our body produces these free radicals itself under the influence of several factors.
How do free radicals arise?
They arise during the breakdown of nutrients in your body. And that is a completely natural process. Free radicals bind to pathogens and thus leave the body again. Due to external influences such as unhealthy food, medication use, polluted air, smoking, exposure to sunlight and stress, our body produces a great many free radicals.
The consequence of too many free radicals.
An excess of free radicals disrupts bodily processes and damages DNA. At skin level, this damage is visible as fine lines, wrinkles, a dull complexion and pigmentation spots. Exactly, the signs of… skin ageing!
What is the role of antioxidants?
Antioxidants are our natural mechanism for protecting us against free radicals. They render the free radicals harmless and thus prevent skin ageing. Quite an important function then!
You can find Vitamin E in:
Plant oils (sunflower, maize and soya oil)
Nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, pecans and peanuts)
Seeds (such as sunflower seeds)
Green leafy vegetables (such as spinach, broccoli, kale)
Other: eggs, prawns
Naturally, vitamin E is also found in many skin oils. Among others Argan oil, Prickly Pear oil, MCT oil and Rice Bran Oil are known as vitamin E rich oils. In addition, you can of course also add vitamin E to your DIY care. Are you looking for a nourishing oil? A very important characteristic of vitamins is that they support each other's action. Without the presence of other antioxidants, a substance in a skincare product cannot do very much. A perfect combination for your skin is vitamin E and vitamin C. Vitamin C improves the efficacy and stability of vitamin E. Vitamin E ensures that Vitamin C is better absorbed by the skin. Together they form a golden duo.
It is important to know that vitamin E is sensitive to light and oxygen. For optimal performance, it is best to choose a sealed pump container. For good efficacy, you need a cream with at least 0.5% vitamin E, preferably in combination with vitamin C.

Vitamin E Oil Tocopherol
The Vitamin E Oil Tocopherol consists of 70% Tocopherol (d-alpha tocopherol) and is derived from sunflower oil and then diluted with 30% sunflower oil to make it more fluid.
Vitamin E Oil Full Spectrum
Our Vitamin E Oil Full Spectrum consists of 50% Tocopherol and Tocotrienol. This Vitamin E Oil contains the eight main natural forms of vitamin E: alpha-tocopherol, alpha-tocotrienol, beta-tocopherol, beta-tocotrienol, gamma-tocopherol, gamma-tocotrienol, delta-tocopherol, and delta-tocotrienol. This Vitamin E oil is derived from palm kernel oil and diluted with 50% palm kernel oil. This palm oil is sustainably produced in Malaysia. The Vitamin E Full Spectrum contains a richer spectrum of Vitamin E and is therefore of better quality and more highly concentrated. You can also notice this in the price and in the thickness and colour of the product. This form of Vitamin E is often used as a supplement or added to an anti-age serum to make it even more powerful. However, this form of Vitamin E is considerably more viscous and darker in colour. This makes it somewhat more difficult to process in DIY products. Vitamin E Tocopherol is somewhat more fluid and lighter in colour. This is a fine choice if you are only going to use it as an antioxidant.
You can also use Vitamin E pure on the skin. For pure use on your skin, apply a little of the oil where needed on cleansed skin and massage the oil in until it is absorbed. Vitamin E oil can also be applied as a serum under your eyes; for this, apply a drop with a fingertip to the skin under your eyes and gently dab it into your skin.

Vitamin E has an enormous number of benefits for the skin. Vitamin E:
Is a strong antioxidant
Protects the skin against free radicals
Helps to retain moisture in the skin
Reduces signs of skin ageing

Ensures that other active ingredients in skincare products can penetrate deeper into the skin to do their work properly there.
Prevents oils in DIY recipes from oxidising (going rancid)
