Apple Cider Vinegar is a liquid that is produced during the fermentation of apple. During this process, the sugars in apples are converted into alcohol through a fermentation process to which bacteria are added. Eventually, vinegar is created.
That Apple Cider Vinegar is made from apples goes without saying. Any type of apple can be used for this. Apple Cider Vinegar is made from the juice of the apple. To obtain this juice, the apples are cut into pieces and pressed. When the apple juice begins to ferment, the sugars in the juice are converted into alcohol and wine is created. When air and bacteria are added to the wine, the fermentation continues slowly and the alcohol is eventually converted into acid. This sour wine is apple cider vinegar. The English word for vinegar literally means sour wine in French (vin aigre).

Apple cider vinegar has a low pH. That makes it a great raw ingredient for your DIY care.
As a facial toner
Always dilute apple cider vinegar well with water before using it on your skin. Apply the toner with a cotton pad. Your skin will feel fresh and clean afterwards. Using apple cider vinegar for the first time? Then test it on a small patch of skin first.
In a clay mask
Mix a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with a tablespoon of clay to make a smooth paste. Leave the mask on your face for about 10 minutes and rinse it off with lukewarm water. You can use any clay, for example Bentonite, Ghassoul, or green, white or red clay.
As a hair rinse

A lot has been written about apple cider vinegar. We make no claims about effects on your health. We have listed the most important tips below.
On your skin: always dilute apple cider vinegar well with water and test it on a small patch of skin first.
In your hair: use diluted apple cider vinegar as a final rinse after washing.
There are two types of Apple Cider Vinegar: clear and cloudy. Clear Apple Cider Vinegar is filtered. Filtering removes the strands from the vinegar, and those strands are called The Mother. Many brands filter their Apple Cider Vinegar, because people often find a clear liquid more attractive. To many people, a cloudy liquid quickly looks dirty. Our Apple Cider Vinegar is unfiltered and unpasteurised, so The Mother is still in it.
The Mother forms during fermentation. It is a cloudy substance of acetic acid bacteria and cellulose, and you see it as strands in the bottle. After a while, The Mother sinks to the bottom. In the photo below, you can see that the vinegar is cloudier at the bottom than at the top. So this is not a sign of spoilage, but a feature of unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar.

It is also possible to make Apple Cider Vinegar at home. Put the apple peels and cores in a container and fill it with water so that the water just covers the apple pieces. Place a cloth over the container so that oxygen can get in, but no dust. To make sure the cloth stays firmly in place, tie it down with a string or elastic band.
The apples and the water need more or less two weeks to ferment. It is important not to keep the container in a place that is too cool. It is also handy to take fruit flies into account in advance, as they are attracted to the smell. So store the container in a room where you do not spend much time.
After two weeks, a white/brown layer (mother) floats on the liquid. Sometimes this is clearer than at other times. This means that the Apple Cider Vinegar is ready and can be poured into a bottle where you are going to store the product. You will also notice that it smells of vinegar. If you wish, you can then sieve the pieces out of the apple cider vinegar using a fine cloth, but this is not a requirement.

Apple Cider Vinegar is a liquid. The colour ranges from dark yellow and orange to burgundy red. The colour depends on the apples, when they were picked and how long they fermented. Filtered Apple Cider Vinegar is clear, and unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar is cloudy because of The Mother. The smell is fresh and sour and lingers in the air for a while. If you use Apple Cider Vinegar often, you quickly get used to the smell.
Apple Cider Vinegar is best stored at room temperature in a dark place. Apple Cider Vinegar has a long shelf life. Still, we recommend using it within two years, because its quality slowly declines after two years.
